Treatments involve botox injections.

WHAT IS BOTOX?
Botox is a prescription medication injected into muscles. It is made from a Botulinum toxin, which is a highly potent neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium ‘Clostridium botulinum’ and related species.

HOW DOES IT WORK?
Botox blocks nerve signals to muscles, by preventing the release of the neurotransmitter ‘acetylcholine’.
As a result, injected muscles cannot contract (tense up) causing temporary paralysis.
These effects are always temporary but can last for several months.
The muscle injected depends on the primary area of concern.
Several areas can be treated in one session.

Jaw grinding (bruxism)

Bruxism affects many people and can impact many areas of health. From jaw pain, to headaches, teeth damage and more.

A proven effective treatment for bruxism is a localised injection of Botox into the masseter muscles. (the ones on the side of your cheek and jaw!)
This relaxes the muscles that cause involuntary clenching.

It also can reduce the size of your masseter muscles, leading to a slimmer facial appearance.

It is a non-invasive treatment, that is relatively pain free, quick, affordable and with minimal recovery time.

On average Botox treatment’s last for about 3-4 months.

Sweat management

Excessive sweating or “hyperhidrosis” can be managed by an injection of botox into the armpits.
The botox blocks a nerve signal that causes the sweat glands to activate. Which can reduce underarm sweating by 82-87%!

It is a temporary treatment lasting between 4-12 months and repeat procedures may be required to maintain effective sweat management.

Chronic muscle spasms

Chronic muscle spasms or “spasticity” can be effectively treated by injections of botox.
Botox stops the affected muscles contracting or spasming by blocking involuntary nerve signals.
Reducing pain and helping to improve mobility and muscle usage.
It is a temporary treatment that lasts 3-4 months on average and repeat injections will be needed.

WHAT SHOULD I DISCLOSE BEFORE TREATMENT?
You must say if you have received any other botulinum toxin products in the last four months or in the past.
Before receiving treatment with Botox, discuss all your medical conditions, particularly if you have a disease(s) that affect your muscles and nerves. All allergies, including allergies to any botulinum toxin products, or if you have experienced any side effect from any other botulinum toxin in the past.
Medical history and all the medicines you take, including:

●     prescription

●     non-prescription medicines

●     vitamins

●     herbal supplements

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE & LAST?
Treatment will usually take about 10-20 minutes. Within three to six months after Botox therapy, the toxins wear off and the muscles regain movement. As a result, wrinkles return and issues like migraines and sweating may resume.
To maintain results, you may choose to receive more Botox injections.
Your healthcare provider can let you know how often to undergo Botox treatment.

WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO SEE THE RESULTS?

You may begin to see visible smoothing as early as 3-4 days after injection. The median first onset of effect was less than a week. The maximum effect occurred at 30 days. The typical duration of effect was up to 3 months in clinical trials but may last significantly longer or shorter in individual patients. After Botox treatment, most people notice the desired effects around the third or fourth day. Full results will be visible within 10 to 14 days.

WHAT ARE THE MOST COMMON SIDE EFFECTS OF BOTOX?

Botox may cause serious side effects, including allergic reactions. Symptoms of an allergic reactions may include:

●     Itching

●     rash

●     redness

●     swelling

●     wheezing

●     asthma symptoms

●     dizziness or feeling faint

●     flu-like symptoms

●     occasional numbness

Within a few hours to weeks of taking Botox it may cause:

●     loss of strength

●     general muscle weakness

●     blurred vision

●     drooping eyelids

If this happens, do not drive a car, operate machinery, or do other dangerous activities.

Botox aftercare instructions

The goal of Botox aftercare is to encourage optimal treatment results.
It can also minimize the risk of bruising and spreading to other areas.

Generally, on the day you get Botox, it is a good idea to:

●     gently exercise your face

●     relax for the rest of the day

●     maintain a normal heart rate

●     avoid touching, rubbing, or physical pressure on the affected area

●     leave the treated area alone

You can also follow the best practices for Botox aftercare below.

Return to your normal activities

Botox injections do not require any recovery time. Therefore, you will not have to take off work. You can resume your usual activities right after.

Wait 24 hours to exercise

If exercise is part of your daily routine, wait at least 24 hours to work out. Your doctor might suggest waiting for several days.

Physical activity increases blood flow. This could potentially spread the toxin to unintended areas and reduce its effectiveness at the injection site. It also increases the risk of bruising.

Exercise also contracts your muscles, which may decrease the toxin’s effectiveness.

However, it is safe to do facial exercises like:

●     frowning

●     smiling

●     raising your eyebrows

These movements can help the effects of Botox show up sooner.

Go makeup-free

If you receive a Botox injection in your face, take a break from makeup for 24 hours. Applying makeup will rub the skin, potentially dispersing the toxin.

Sit up

Sit up for the first 4 hours after getting Botox. Bending or lying down might spread the toxin and promote bruising.
