Wedge Resection
Wedge Resection is an effective treatment for ingrown toenails offered by Dr Bauer. It involves the removal of a section or “wedge” of the nail and nail bed under local anaesthetic. This is done to make sure it doesn’t reoccur.
Post op treatment
Keeping it elevated
For the first day or two, keep your foot elevated to reduce swelling.
Protecting the wound
Keep the wound covered with a bandage to prevent infection and aid healing. You should change the dressing as instructed by your provider, usually once or twice a day.
Taking medication
You may be prescribed antibiotics to prevent infection, and pain medication to help with discomfort.
Wearing comfortable shoes
Wear open-toed shoes or comfortable shoes with socks for the first few days.
Limiting activity
Avoid putting weight on your foot, and try to reduce activity for the first 2–4 weeks. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous exercise for 6 weeks.
Monitoring for infection
Look out for signs of increasing pain or discomfort, which could indicate an infection.
